August 26: Pope Saint Zephyrinus
This Pope suffered not only from the persecutions and heretics of his time, but also from his own sons. This shows what Jesus said: And a man's enemies shall be they of his own household. , Matthew 10:36. He is considered a martyr, although there is no evidence that he was executed.
There are two forms of martyrdom, red and white. Red martyrdom is obviously, that where the enemy kills the martyr directly. White martyrdom is where a person is so persecuted by the followers of Satan that he suffers greatly, as did Saint Zephyrinus. What greater suffering can there be than that which comes from a man's own sons?
PRAYER: Saint Zephyrinus, comfort all who are suffering from white martyrdom. Amen.
