April 9: Saint Wandru
Saint Wandru belonged to a family, almost all of whose members were canonized! How holy a family this must have been and what an example to us. How many of our families are like this? Let us imitate this saint and his holy family.
Saint Wandru's parents were Saints Walbert and Bertilla. She married Saint Vincent and had four children: Saints Landric, Aldetrude and Madelberte; Dentric died in infancy after Baptism, so was not ever canonized although he is certainly in heaven.
After sending all of her children into the service of God, one as a monk and two as nuns, she and her husband separated and entered religion. She endured many temptations of the devil, not to mention the memory of the delights of her secular life which came back to her and discouraging thoughts with which she was obsessed. Eventually heaven sent her peace and great consolations, which shows us that by suffering through the trials God gives us we can find peace, sometimes here but always in the next life.
PRAYER: Saint Wandru, lead us to form holy families of saints like you did. Lead mothers to be saints, who raise their children to be Saints. Amen.
PRAYER: Saint Vincent, inspire fathers to be true heads of the family, leading their families by their holy lives. Amen.
PRAYER: Saints Landric, Aldetrude and Madelberte inspire all children to follow you on the road of sanctity by becoming saints in their childhood. Amen.
