May 13: Saint Robert Bellarmine, Doctor of the Church
This nephew of Pope Marcellus II was an outstanding man. He was allowed to preach before his ordination. He brought many heretics back to the faith. He was a counselor to Pope Clement VIII and vindicator of Papal rights. He followed the Angelic Doctor, Saint Thomas Aquinas. Benedict XIV called him the hammer of heretics, and Pius XI beatified him, canonized him and declared him a doctor of the Church.
PRAYER: Saint Robert, hammer the heretics of our time by leading them to the knowledge of the truth and its Author, God. Amen.
