December 31: Saint Melania
She was only thirteen when she got married. She had several children, who all died in infancy. She and her husband then took a vow of continence, set their numerous slaves free, and sold some of their possessions. They then went to Saint Augustine and founded two monasteries in his diocese.
Most married people are not called to continence. However many have begun practice periodic continence which is the abstinences from marital rights by free mutual consent for a time.
PRAYER; Saint Melania, help all women to become saints, no matter what their vocation may be. Amen.
