May 15: Saint John Baptist de la Salle, Patron of Educators of Youth

With St. John Baptist de la Salle we begin our study of saintly addicts, that is those who are so devoted to God that they are called addicts.   During this time, although his mental powers and his lively and pleasant disposition endeared him to all, he nevertheless shrank from the company of his fellows, so that,  being inclined  to solitude, he might more easily find time for God.  Saint John was  addicted  to solitude, that is getting away from the insane noise of the world so that he could pray and meditate.  He did this after discharging his duty to children, who can be quite noisy.  So let us seek solitude, but not at the expense of our duty.

PRAYER; Inspire us, Saint John, who are busy in the educating of children to be citizens of heaven and let us join in your holy addiction to God.  Amen.
