January 30th: St. Hippolytus

Saint Hippolytus was a converted schismatic, who said  that he would keep the same faith as the See of Peter held;  The Roman Martyrology tells us that St. Hippolytus,  for a while was deceived by the schism of Novatus, but by the working of Christ's grace was corrected, and returned to the unity of the faith; and for its sake consummated therein an illustrious martyrdom.  He was asked by the people which sect were truer, and cursed the dogma of Novatus, saying that he would keep the same faith as the See of Peter held; and so he offered them his neck.

Prayer: Saint Hippolytus, who once fell into schism, but came to realize that the only road to heaven was through the Faith of Saint Peter and his successor, the Popes, lead all schismatics back to the chair of unity.  Amen.
